Indian Deed for most of Morris County, NJ

The transcription of this deed has several points of interest.  It includes a photographic copy of the actual marks made by the Indians, as their signatures.  Also, the main grantor, Tapkaow, was an ancestor (probably grandfather) of Tishcohan, whose famous portrait, by Gustavus Hesselius is found in many books on the Lenape.  The transcription of the deed was published in the November, 1946 edition of New Jersey Counties:  Morris County ...The Garden Spot of The Garden State, page 36.  The original is in the collections of the New Jersey Historical Society, Newark, NJ.
