Over 30 American Indian students from Eastern and Western, Southeast Alaska and Tuba City, Arizona will plant a vegetable garden. The garden will have a variety of vegetables that are indigenous to North America.

Bradford, the first American Indian to win the Heisman Trophy, will assist in planting the garden, called “The Roots of American Agriculture” at the Headquarters People’s Garden.

Athletes and the Obama Administration are participating in the “Fuel up to Play 60” campaign, and “Let’s Move.” Secretary Vilsack met Bradford during an event at the Super Bowl in Arlington, Texas earlier this year.

Bradford and Vilsack will be joined at USDA by Robin Schepper, executive director of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Campaign; National Congress of American Indians Executive Director Jacqueline Johnson Pata; Keith Moore, director of the Bureau of Indian Education, and Janie Hipp, Senior Advisor to Secretary Vilsack with the USDA Office of Tribal Relations.
