At a Friday morning press conference, Jim Traficant announced that Lordstown is his preferred location to build his proposed Indian casino.
"We thought it important to secure the land," said Traficant. "There has been too much speculation. There have people calling me from all over. The siting of the project is over."
The whole compound is just under 72 acres of land, bordered by Salts Spring Road, Lyntz Road and the Ohio Turnpike. It must now be approved by the I.T.A.N.A. group. Traficant has been working with them to bring a casino to the Valley.
"It's located equidistance between both New York and Chicago, and both those highway systems," said Traficant. "It will be easy to get to, and it has a great potential for success."
Traficant also announced that he has received support from an Indian group that has ties to Ohio.
"The commitment of the Munsee Delaware Indian Nation is very significant," said Traficant. "Since they have not relinquished any of their treaty rights and any separate sub-agreements to the state or federal government."
The former Congressman said he is confident he'll be able to secure the more than $100 million it will take to get the casino, hotel, and theme park project started.
But the idea of an Indian casino isn't a new one. The Eastern Shawnee tribe tried and failed in Lordstown several years ago.
"It's up to the property owner, which it seems like he is pretty much in favor of it," said Ron Barnhart, Lordstown planning and zoning administrator. "I think it's a toss-up between the people of the community."

Never mind. Found it at Wikipedia:
"He was expelled (from the House of Representatives) after being convicted of taking bribes, filing false tax returns, racketeering, and forcing his aides to perform chores at his farm in Ohio and on his houseboat in Washington, D.C.,[1] and was released from prison on September 2, 2009, after serving a seven-year sentence."

Traficant Options Lordstown Site for Casino
Jim Traficant at press event.

By Dan O’Brien
NORTH JACKSON, Ohio -- Jim Traficant places his odds at eight in 10 to secure financing for a proposed casino and resort complex that he wants to build near here.
But others -- regional banks and local business leaders to be specific -- aren’t willing to bet on a venture they see as a long shot, he acknowledged.
And so the former congressman said he’s looking out of town for funds to develop a $250 million casino, hotel and theme park in nearby Lordstown.
“On a scale of one to 10, I’d say we’re at an eight,” Traficant told reporters Friday at a press event at Dino’s Restaurant. He said his company -- The Traficant Co. LLC -- has an option to purchase 72 acres in Lordstown along Carson Salt Springs and Lyntz roads, where the resort would be built.
Traficant would not disclose the details of the option.
He said the casino would create at least 500 jobs, while subsequent phases could add as many as 1,500 more. “I’m confident that we are very close to embarking on a massive project.” He said he hopes to get at least $100 million in funding by the end of the year.
Traficant announced in December that he’s acting as a conduit to bring a casino and resort to the Mahoning Valley that would be operated by the Indigenous Tribal Affiliates of Native America, or Itana. The group is an amalgam of tribes whose offices are based in Utah.
The biggest hurdle facing the venture is that Itana is not a recognized Native American tribe, a designation the former congressman wants to pursue through the federal courts. Should the group’s sovereignty be recognized, Itana would answer to treaty law between itself and the U.S. government, not state law. Therefore, building a casino would not require another amendment to the state constitution.
“Anyone who doesn’t believe this is an Indian nation is smoking dope,” Traficant declared. Representatives of Itana are tentatively scheduled to visit the Valley Feb. 17.
He said the legal fight could cost as much as $500,000, and the effort has received support from the Munsee Delaware nation, which has tribal roots in Ohio. “We expect a legal fight, and we expect to win it,” he remarked.
Jack Bartko, president of Epic Corp. in Howland, said he’s working on developing the theme park component of the project. The theme park would be mostly indoors, and said the project is unique, but in many ways it’s “no different than any other project” the developer’s done.
Epic, he added, has developed mini malls, gas stations, schools and churches.
Traficant said he hasn’t bothered seeking funds from local interests because area banks aren’t lending. Financial backing for the venture would be entirely through private sources elsewhere he said, and no government money would be used.
After the press conference in North Jackson, Traficant led a caravan of reporters and spectators to the Lordstown site, a farm owned by Donald Allman.
Allman, who also runs a large feed, hardware and equipment business on the farm, said that he didn’t consider selling his land until he talked with Traficant.
The former congressman, released from federal prison after serving seven years for bribery and racketeering, said the site was perfect because of its proximity to Interstates 80 and 76.
“This site is indicative of the region’s assets,” he said. “We’re halfway between New York and Chicago and there’s access to two freeway systems.”

Considering LittleSoldier claims to be working with ITANA as well (on his current events page) that is a really funny statement ![]()
Edit to add: I can't find anything about Itana that doesn't involve Traficant and this nonsense. ![]()

Is anyone taking any of this seriously? Do they have a snowflake's chance in hell of getting this approved? This is all craziness! Is anyone in Ohio listening to them?
I agree, tree hugger; the dope smoking comment was funny, especially considering the players involved.

Article is similar to the one just posted. Quoting this section about Itana and Little Soldier's Munsee Delaware.
Traficant moves ahead on his plan for casino forward on casino

Because the Traficant Co. LLC is acting only as a purchasing agent, representing the Indigenous Tribal Affiliates of Native America - the Itana Indian Nation, the actual purchase of the land still must be approved, along with rights to operate a casino on the land.
James Traficant's wife, Patricia, is CEO of Traficant Co. LLC. It signed the deal with Itana on Nov. 27.
Itana is a collection of American-Indians, according to Ron Allen, director of economic development and manager of Utah-based Tribal Associates Group, Itana's business arm. The group has tribe status pending by the U.S. government.
Traficant also announced that he has received support from an Indian group that has ties to Ohio.
"The commitment of the Munsee Delaware Indian Nation is very significant," he said. "Since they have not relinquished any of their treaty rights and any separate sub-agreements to the state or federal government."

Itana has "tribe status pending by the U.S. Government"?? Yeah, along with a thousand other wannabee groups. The Munsee Delaware "have not relinquished any of their treaty rights"?? Guess you'd really have to be Munsee for this to matter. Too bad, Billy.

Both of their credibility is in the trashcan. Hopefully this is all "smoke and mirrors" and this little "business venture" falls flat on it's ass.
