Not sure if this idiotview, um, err, interview link was posted yet or not but here goes:
http://www.kyw1060.com/pages/2925083.ph … Id=2710563

note: just a reminder, Mr. Ruth is a "fluent speaker" of the Lenape language, in fact he "taught" Shelly DePaul the language, in only a few years mind you which is record breaking, however my point as a "fluent speaker" he would not have to pause, misread the label and then re-pronounce incorrectly: tahkoxi shuhenikan.
just a thought......roll

I can't play the audio while working but:

"Instead of having your normal artifacts, we went to peoples' homes, collected things that came down from generations to them. So you can see their grandparents in that moccasin, you can see their great-grandfather in the snowshoes that are here."

roll

is it just me or does he look uh.. awfully happy.. in that picture?

Turtle Clan??? How is it that they maintained the clan system when nobody else did??? yikes
Have we degenerated so far and become so cowardly as to be afraid to call liars what they are because it might not be politically correct or we might get in trouble?
That members of the Absentee, the Delaware, the Munsee, The Nanticoke dare call themselves illa'uk yet let this abberation and cultural theft run wild??? hmm

I agree with you on that!!  Penn was contacted numerous times by various groups and shown the "stupidity", they have not put an end to this, all of the various "groups, tribes, bands, and nations" know about it, disapprove of it yet it still goes on, I DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT!!!mad

at least the city of Hawley gets it finally, that took the same thing, many calls, letters, and finally they see:

"THE 11TH ANNUAL LENAPE NATION POW WOW HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Permit denied 9/4/08 per Borough of Hawley "

Another question. What happened to Jim Beers their "tribal spokesperson". What happened with the farm they aquired (the Jane Quick Farm). hmm Mayhaps some people from Penn should look into it............

I also noticed that all mention of Bill Thompson, The former chief of the Lenape Nation who was born in Burlington County, NEW JERSEY is now missing.

Re: Fulfilling a Prophecy: The Past and Present of the Lenape in "PA"

Another point I've been thinking about. Remaining Eastern Tribes have a continuous connection between each other. A Rappahannock would come up to the Nanticoke community to find work or a wife. A Nanticoke would join the Ramapough community. A Wampanoag or Shinnecock would come down to the Monacans, Pee Dee, Rappahannock or Palmico and this has been going on for 2 centuries
For example. You can fine Pierces among both the Nanticoke Lenape and the Monacan. Burtons among the Nanticoke proper and Ramapough. Comers among the Rappahannock, Stockbridge or in Gouldtown. Cuffs among all the tribes. Adams' among the Rappahannock, Monacan and Mohican. Josephs among the Wampanoags, Penobscott, 6 Nations and in Kent County Delaware. Chavis' among the Peedee and in the Gouldtown area. Scotts among Rappahannock, Pee Dee and Ramapough.
There is NO family connection between these people and other remaining Eastern tribes. If they were a remaining tribe there would be.
They also cannot prove a "continuous community" they met as adults and their tribal membership is forever changing.

Re: Fulfilling a Prophecy: The Past and Present of the Lenape in "PA"

He! Gang,

I am a regular subscriber to these newspapers: The Burlington County (NJ) Times, and the South Jersey edition of the Phila. Inquirer.

I searched every page of each of these papers yesterday (Sunday) -  but not a word about the disgrace - oops- display at the U of PENN Museum in either newspaper. However, that could have been because  the continuing coverage of Hurricane Ike took up a lot of room.

BUT, nothing in today's papers either. Now, Monday's papers are usually "slim" so there would be plenty of space to cover this "adventure" . . . umm . . . "catastrophe".

Could it be that the media types are lifting their feet out of the b-ll s--t???.                Just asking!

                                             Love to all,

here's another one:

The mis-information is so much that I have no interest in pointing it out, over, and over, and over, and.......  for those of us that know Lenape Culture, either through research or through life, the pictures once again speak for themselves.........roll

HE! Gang,

The Courier-Post article describes more "artifacts" than  the pics and descriptions from  other sources.

I'm getting tired of explaining how WRONG things are -  It's all WRONG, WRONG, WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Lenape word is "glikenikan."  It's about 3/4 tobacco and 1/4 sumac.  The proportion used is really up to the individual.  Maybe the LNP has their own secret recipe.  Never heard this from any traditional Lenape, though.

The "story" is that he moved to Wisconsin after he was diagnosed with MS, he "retired" and moved out there to be closer to his "family", don't know who...., his address was posted in one of the articles on here...

Someone from Heite Consulting told me that he was a Stockbridge and was born out there. I just stared at them like this - yikes

Well folks here is another article on the "Misconception Prophecy":
http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainm … eople.html

And again the Lakota bag with the pan-indian "medicine wheel" and AIM colors, the thrift store doll, and once again "Mr. Potato Head" is in the spotlight...  notice for those who got some or all of the emails a week or so ago, this is the article that Penn wanted the various "groups, tribes, nations, and communities" to contribute to, once you read this article you will see NO mention of any of the 11 responses from these groups, all of which discredited the information and items here..... yikes

We'll....It is in the entertainment section........

I'm seriously thinking about a little 'cut and paste' with those responses. I'm always on the council's "poop list" anyway........ hmm

Uh?  Well...  Frank G. Speck was appointed Acting Assistant Curator of this Museum in 1911.  Speck was part Mahican (proven, by the way), and, at the age of 8 years old, was sent to live with the Indian woman, Fidelia Fielding (a family friend) in Connecticut, and she taught him much of what was left of the Mohegan-Pequot culture and language.  So, apparently, the University of Pennsylvania doesn't even know it's own history!  (Maybe, since Speck didn't claim to be a tribal member, his ancestry and upbringing doesn't count, in this reckoning?)

That answers why he knew just how to act among the Nanticoke and why he felt so comfortable among us.

Or they're counting on no one else remembering. hmm
