"What good News the Angels bring."

Okay.  This will be this year's Christmas offering.  This Moravian hymn is No. 162 in the English hymnal, and the tune to which it is sung is No. 346.  The Delaware has been transcribed from A Collection of Hymns for the use of the Delaware Christian Indians of the Mission of the United Brethren in North America, 2nd edition revised and abridged by A. Luckenbach, Bethlehem, PA (1847), Hymn No. 18, pp. 40-41.  I've added my literal word-for-word English translation.  I'm not going to attempt to render it in English verse!

“What good news the angels bring.”

1.    Enschlak Welilissitschik                             The-angels those-who-do-good

Peton Wulaptonamik:                                  Bring-it the-good-news:

M’hittachpo juke gischquik,                          He-is-begotten now (to)day,

Wendoochwet Tewonglikik.                          He-who-comes-for those-who-are-lost.

2.     Nan wemi gischitagup,                               That-one all he-made-it,

Bethlehem gischigitup,                                   Bethlehem he-was-born,

Wemi Pemhakamigek                                    All the-world

Kikemhaluwed, loquek.                                  The-Savior, behold!

3.     Wemi wulelendamook,                                 All rejoice

Amangachgenutemook                                    Relate-it-greatly

Hokunk Getanitawit,                                        On-high the-Great-Spirit

Ahowaltowoaganit.                                          He-is-love.

4.     Wulangundowoagano                                     There-is-peace

Hakink epit, genamo!                                        On-Earth where-he-is, give-thanks!

Juke eli Gochena                                              Now because our-Father

Woak gulelemukuna.                                        Also He-shows-us-consideration.

5.     Jesus Eluwilissit                                                 Jesus the-most-holy-one

Wdellewunsowoaganit,                                     He-has-the-name,

Enschel kschiechi wundam’nep,                        The-angel clearly he-declared-it,

Metauchsitschil undoochwep.                            Sinners he-came-for.

6.      Ktemakachtschangussite,                                  If-one-is-a-poor-slave,

Jesussink lischimuite,                                         To-Jesus if-he-flees-to,

Wuski Wdehin milgussu,                                     A-new heart he-is-given,

Woak Wdamemensemuxu.                                 And he-becomes-his-child.

Here is the music to which this hymn is sung.  (Ignore the words, below.  Moravian hymns often use more than one set of lyrics with with the same tune.)

That's what would be sooo funny. Ray singing the bass and you sounding like a racoon in a woodchipper. lol

When Ives Goddard studied with his Delaware informants in Ontario, there were still people there who could sing the old hymns in four-part harmony!  Don't know if any of it was ever recorded, back then.

I can sing it in four parts, but the harmony thing isn't gonna happen, LOL!
