Artists interpret Henry Hudson's Staten Island visit for 400th anniversary exhibit
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Among the New York City museums celebrating the Henry Hudson quadricentennial, none has such a provocative link to the story as the Staten Island Museum in St. George.
First-person accounts suggest that Hudson made landfall in Great Kills Harbor and spent substantial time here. Historian Evan Pritchard's theory underlies the museum's current "Contact: 1609," a show of commissioned art projects about events that started the clock ticking for Lenape culture, and began the era archeologists dubbed the "Contact Period."
